Injury Report 03/29

Image result for crunch time
It's crunch time for the playoffs from chscomet.org

As we are a couple of weeks from the playoffs, teams need everyone on the roster to be suited up and ready to go. If you are a playoff contender, every game from here on out is for home court advantage. Home court advantage comes in handy in the beginning of a series and definitely at the end. In the NBA, the higher seed always gets the first two games at home. If you take care of business at home, you have the chance to be up two games to none entering your opponents arena. Some teams are hoping for a return of their superstars while others are awaiting a dreadful year with the hopes of being in a better position around this time next year.

To start off this wonderful week of injury reports, I have good news! Kevin Durant has been able to add more intensity to his workouts. Durant has been on injury reserve since Febuary 28th with a grade 2 mMCLcl sprain. He is expected to start non contact drills to build his conditioning back up. With the Warriors being a championship contending team, they are comfortable with Kevin returning at the start of the second round. Upon his return, it has already been established that he will be on a minute restriction. We hope to see the seven time all star back on the court amazing us with his great abilities.

With good news, there's usually bad news. (at least for me) My favorite player, Dwyane Wade has suffered a right elbow fracture that has sidelined him for the remainder of the season. Dwyane was providing nearly 19 points per contest. With the three time finals champion out, the bulls struggle to find scoring among their youth. Many people dont uderstand how valuable Dwyane Wade is. He's an underrated passer with good size and ice in his veins! The good news is, if the bulls do make the playoffs, Dwyane Wade has already started to do light shooting drills to rehab his elbow. Get well D. Wade!

The next fellow on injury reserve is Dion Waiters of the Miami Heat. Dion has led his team to wins over Golden State and the Cleveland Cavaliers, twice. In a win over the Minnesota Timberwolves, Waiters suffered an ankle that had kept him out for the last 5 games. Waiters has been scoring the ball effortlessly chiming in 15 points a game, tying his career high in 2013 with the Cavaliers. We hope to see his clutchness back on the court sooner than later!

Whether you have a sprained finger or a knee injury, recovering properly is crucial. Being patient is the hardest thing to do at this moment because the playoffs are right around the corner. Having a good support team around will help with the injury process.

Injury Report 03/21

Photo of Dwyane Wade injured by xnsports.com

One of the biggest setbacks in the NBA is an injury. Whether you are a team looking to earn a playoff spot or a championship contender, injuries always linger over teams head. When it comes to the NBA, there are only a selected number of spots available for players.  If a player goes down, the man that was lost has a huge impact on a team. In the NBA, many players that are chosen does one thing great. It can range from defending and rebounding to scoring and passing. Once a specialist goes down, you can't simply get another player because there is money involved. Teams have to wait until that player rehabilitates to see where they can use him on the court.

Great news for Cleveland Cavalier fans, Kevin Love is back ladies and gentlemen! The star power forward has returned after missing 13 games of play. On his first night back, he tallied in 10 points on 5 of 9 shooting. Love was a rebound away from a double-double in 19 minutes on his return against the Utah Jazz. He is still on a minute restriction so he didn't compete against the Clippers. This is great for the Cavilers organization because they have had struggles with the absence of their four-time all-star.

Since the beginning of March, the Asian sensation, Jeremy Lin, has been scoring four more points that his average per game. In 22 minutes, he has managed to score 15 points per game. Extremely efficient I would say. Jeremy went down with an ankle sprain and is listed as day-to-day. Sources from ESPN have confirmed that the injury isn't too serious, leaving the front unconcerned.

As the second leading scorer in the NBA, Isaiah Thomas has managed to lead his team to an above par 45-26 record. Isaiah suffered a knee bruise that sidelined him for two games previous to last night. The teams play was mediocre in Isaiah's absence, but that is to be expected when you get nearly 28 points a game from your star. Fortunately, for the Celts, their all start returned Monday night ringing in 25 points on 9 of 17 shooting receiving the win. The Celtics are sitting at the number two spot in the eastern conference right now chasing the defending champions, the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Touching back on the Cleveland Cavaliers, Tristan Thompson is the highlight of this week's injury report. Tristan had a mouth injury. Yes, that doesn't sound like a serious injury, it's the fact that his 439 consecutive games played streak almost ended. Tristian is fourth in offensive rebounding this year which they need him to continue to defend their NBA title.

With the playoffs arriving less than a month away, it's pivotal for players to be healthy. I think the best way to go about an injury is not coming back until you are one hundred percent healthy. I've experienced injuries get worse because I have come back slightly before I probably should have. With the NBA being a multi-million dollar industry, I'm sure the protocol to get these players back on the floor is A-1.

I like to highlight the most notable players that have sustained injuries in the NBA on my blog, but if you are looking for all of the players in the NBA with injuries, take a look at ESPN site for more information

Weekly Injury Report

NBA Logo from logodesignlove.com

Since 2017 has started, the NBA has been plagued with injuries ranging from stars to up incoming stars. Throughout the decades of the NBA we have seen injuries completely ruin players careers leaving us with the statement, "what if?" Unfortunately, some players have had to end their careers for good while others were able to come back but are never quite the same. Luckily for players like Derrick Rose, Black Griffin, Paul George, and Grant Hill they were able to bounce back and still play the game they love.

It seems as if we have been hit with an epidemic in regards to injuries in the NBA this year. Many of the notable injuries that we have seen have been a right body part injury. An emerging superstar, Joel Embiid, went down with a right meniscus tear in his knee and is set to be inactive the rest of the season. The Sixers were moving in the right direction with hopes of a playoff berth, but sadly got put on hold due rupture.

Zach Lavine had been coming into his own in the 2016-2017 season. He was average 5 (14 ppg to 18.9 ppg) more points a game from the previous season due mainly to his improved jump shot. Lavine suffered a right ACL tear, sidelining him for the rest of the 2017 season. Zach Lavine was also the 2016 slam dunk contest winner so it's going to be interesting to see how much explosion he has when he returns.

The Milwaukee Bucks took a blow when Jabari Parker suffered yet another ACL tear in his right knee. This injury is extremely dreadful because Parker was just coming into his own averaging 20 points per contest on a young and talented team. Hopefully this will push Jabari to rehab even harder with expectations to return more athletic and stronger.

These next two injuries are both left knee injuries but are probably the biggest injuries in the NBA.

Kevin Love, one of the more high profiled players in the NBA, has also endured a left knee injury. Kevin is apart of a defending championship team that presence is needed night in and night out. Luckily, Love should be available before playoffs start unlike the best scorer in the NBA, Kevin Durant.

Kevin Durant, an eight time all star and one time MVP, has suffered an left knee MLC sprain. The seven foot wing player had been scoring 25 points per game with his new team, the Golden State Warriors.

Throughout my basketball career, I've sustained multiple injuries. Fortunately, I've never had an injury that has taken more than two months to recover from. The key to to a speedy recovery is consistant, hard rehabilitation. When you are playing basketball as a job, I think that is motivation in itself. Usually on a college or high school level, depending on the injury, athletes give up because there are other options.

The biggest obstacle to overcome is the mental aspect of an injury. The body part you injured can be 100 percent, but if you don't feel like you can make the same movements, the rehab was pointless.

I have a lot of passion for the game because it's been apart of me since a kid. I also enjoy reading others point of view that share the same passion as me.  Game Haus has a credible blog that always provides good insight on news around the league.

Picture of the Day

More Impressive?

If you are a basketball fan you know exactly what this is and why this picture is pivotal. Both players, in their respected times, are doing something the game had/has never seen before. On the left, you have a hall of famer by the name of Oscar Robertson. On the right lies a future hall of famer in Russell Westbrook. Russell is on target to average a triple double for an entire season. He’s averaging 31 points a game, 10 rebounds a game, and 10 assist a game for the 2016-2017 season.

Oscar Robertson nearly averaged a triple double for his career scoring 31 points a game, with 10 rebounds an 11 assist. It’s important to understand some of the difference between two players. It’s important to note that Oscar was a towering six foot eight, while Russell is, still a lot of height for a point guard, six foot four. While it is impressive to maintain a high level of play it takes to complete triple doubles night in and night, I think Russell Westbrook’s is a little more notable. I say that because in this day and time, forwards and centers are bigger and stronger than they have ever been. To be able to go amongst the trees (bigs) and rebound is unheard of.

With the pick and roll offense ran in the NBA now, I think it’s easier for Russell to get assist because of the spacing. Russell and Oscar both average 31 points so you can’t say whether one is more impressive in that aspect. In my opinion, I think both of their triple-double seasons are equally impressive. I say that because back in the 60s and 70s, there were true bigs. When I say true bigs, I mean players that stayed in the paint. Nowadays, you have stretch centers shooting threes and handling the ball. They are the same height so that's more of a reason to conclude in a tie.

About my love for the NBA

Ever since a kid, I was always mesmerized by the athleticism and level of focus NBA players possessed. I've been a loyal fan to my favorite player, Dwyane Wade, since 2005 as he has never failed to amaze. My favorite team growing up was the Boston Celtics. The history behind the organization is what captured me as a fan.

The NBA known to stand for "No Boys Allowed." That slogan is to represent the toughness and hard work ethic it takes each players to have for success. I used to watch their off-season workouts and thought it was so amazing to see the effort that they put in on a daily bases to achieve their goals. I always aspired to be an NBA player so at a young age, the specials that would come on television showing fans the work that they put in motivated me. I used to that motivation in my adolescent days to earn myself a full scholarship to player college basketball. Now that I have played my last collegiate basketball game, I've decided to continue my love of the game through blogging. The NBA is where amazing happens, so finding a topics to talk about won't be difficult.

Now that I am twenty three years of age, I have been able to see the drastic transition the NBA has made with the style of play. In 2007 a new player by the name of Kevin Durant touched the surface as a 7 foot ball player that can shoot and dribble. This kind of play had never been seen before at the level of which Durant was doing it. He expanded the game where nowadays, we don't see true centers, just stretched forwards. With the game evolving, it has now revolved around the superstars and how they want to play the game. I love the fast style of play and the way players make certain shots or moves look effortless.
